Sending an inReach message with an Android device

Your inReach satellite communicator can be used to create messages of up to 160 characters and send them to contacts synced from inreach.garmin.com, contacts on your phone or add a new address as a recipient.

To test messaging on your device you may send a free message to testinreach@garmin.com. You are provided with five free test messages to this address each month.

IMPORTANT

Your inReach will need to be paired via Bluetooth to your Android device to send messages through the Earthmate app. If you have not already done so use the instructions in the link below to pair the inReach device to the Earthmate application.

  1. Open the Earthmate app.
    Note: The Earthmate app is a free download from the Google Play Store.
  2. Tap the Message icon in the notification bar.
  3. Start tying a name in the Text box and select a contact.

    OR
    Tap the Contact icon to open the phone's contact list and then select a contact.


    OR

    Enter the entire email or mobile phone number and tap ENTER. If entering a mobile phone number, enter +(countrycode)(areacode)(phonenumber). Example +14162536008.

  4. Type a message.

  5. Tap the Send icon.
  6. The message is sent when the icon appears next to the message.  To see details of the message tap it.
